Malakoff picks up straight sweep of Kemp at home
MALAKOFF–The Malakoff Lady Tigers swept the Kemp Lady Yellowjackets in straight sets Sept. 17 at home.
Malakoff Lady Tiger Alliyah Coleman opened with a kill to put the Lady Tigers in front 2-0.
A 10-6 run put Malakoff ahead 12-6 over Kemp. Kemp was forced to take their first timeout of the night, trailing 15-6.
A 10-7 run to end the first set gave the Lady Tigers a 25-13 win to take a 1-0 set lead.
After getting the first point of the second set to take a 1-0 lead, the Lady ’Jackets fell behind 8-2, leading to another timeout.
An even 7-7 run from each team made it a 15-9 game. A 7-3 run increased Malakoff’s lead to 22-12 over Kemp.
The Lady Tigers finished off the Lady ’Jackets 25-18 in the second set, putting Kemp on the brink entering the third set.
The two teams battled back and forth in the third set as Kemp began to find their footing. They sat tied 10-10 as neither team wanted to give in.
After the Lady Tigers took a late 16-13 lead, the Lady ’Jackets stormed back to take a 22-21 lead as they looked for their first set victory of the night.
The Lady Tigers added the final four points as they took down the Lady ’Jackets three sets to zero.
The loss drops the Lady ’Jackets to 1-10 overall and 0-2 to begin district play.
The win bumps the Lady Tigers record to 14-10 and they begin district play 2-0.
Kemp returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 24 on the road as they take on the Eustace Lady Bulldogs (18-7, 2-0 district) at 4:30 p.m.
