Malakoff goes 4-0 in Troup tournament
TROUP–The Malakoff Lady Tigers softball squad went a perfect 4-0 in the Troup tournament March 7-9.
In their first game of tournament play Thursday afternoon, Malakoff took on Overton.
Overton plated the first run in the top of the first inning before the Lady Tigers responded with two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead.
The Lady Tigers added three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as they moved ahead 5-1.
Overton added a late run in the top of the sixth inning, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Tigers came out victorious 5-2.
Kinleigh Dalrymple picked up the complete game win, going six innings with six strikeouts.
In their second game Thursday night, Malakoff took down Douglass by a final score of 6-2.
Zy’maijah Thomas picked up three hits and two RBIs in the win over Douglass as Dalrymple picked up her second straight win with six innings of two-run softball, along with three strikeouts.
The Lady Tigers’ bats went to work in their third game of the tournament as they took on the Eustace Lady Bulldogs March 8.
Malakoff got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning before adding four more runs in the top of the second inning to increase their lead to 5-0.
The Lady Bulldogs scored their first run in the bottom of the second inning to cut the deficit to 5-1.
Malakoff plated two more runs in the top of the third inning to move ahead 7-1.
Eustace added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth with Malakoff answering with a single run in the fifth inning before exploding for five runs in the top of the sixth inning on their way to a big 13-3 victory Friday night.
Claire Spivey and Joey White added three hits apiece with Jaci Spiva and Josie Driskell adding two RBIs each in the win.
Dalrymple once again went six innings for the Lady Tigers, picking up the win over the Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Tigers wrapped up the weekend Saturday morning with a fourth win over Carlisle.
The Lady Tigers started off strong with seven runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 7-0 lead.
Carlisle plated three runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to 7-3.
Malakoff added one more run in the top of the second inning on their way to an 8-3 victory over Carlisle.
Spiva added two more hits and RBIs for the Lady Tigers with White adding two RBIs against Carlisle.
Dalrymple wrapped up the weekend with her fourth straight win in two innings of work with four strikeouts.
The 4-0 weekend moves the Lady Tigers’ record to 11-3 overall in 2019.
Malakoff returns to the field March 19 at home against Mildred with first pitch at 6 p.m.
