EUSTACE–The Malakoff Tiger boys and Eustace Lady Bulldogs won their respective district championships at the 18-3A track and field meet held April 7-8, which also featured Kemp High School.
The Malakoff boys totaled 195 points, outdistancing Eustace, who tallied 158 points. The Eustace girls clinched their title with 230 points, ahead of second-place Malakoff, who had 182 points. The Kemp girls came in third with 67 points.
The Eustace girls placed first, second and third in the 800-meter run, led by Morgan Buccaferno, as well as the 1600 and 3200-meter runs (Paige Row won first place in both). Other first-place finishes for the Eustace girls were Grace Ferrell in the 300-meter hurdles, Ella Taylor in the 400-meter dash, Emily Thornhill in the 100-meter hurdles, O’Kayla Brookins in the shot put, Kierra Abrahamson in the discus and Emma Bell in the high jump. The 1600-meter relay team of Sadie Jo Long, Ella Taylor, Buccaferno and Ferrell also finished first.
Eustace boys’ district champions include Nate Holland in the 800-meter run and Trenton Porte in the 1600 and 3200-meter runs.
The Malakoff boys won first place in the 400-meter relay (Jaylen Moseley, Haydin Thomas, Klayton Copeland and Duce Hart) and the 1600-meter relay (Austin Massingill, Marcus Hornbuckle, Avanti Roberts and Jaylon Hart). Nathan Jones also won the shot put and high jump, Darion Peace won the discus and Conner Kale was first in the pole vault.
Malakoff girls’ district champions include Aaniya Minifee in the 100-meter dash, Rayona Runnels in the 200-meter dash and long jump, and Katelyn McCoy in the pole vault. The 400-meter relay team of McCoy, Minifee, Runnels and DeMia Jackson as well as the 800-meter relay team of Raegan Smith, Minifee, Runnels and Jackson also won district titles.
