Bulldogs bitten by Tigers’ five-run seventh inning
EUSTACE–The Eustace Bulldogs Senior night was spoiled by a late flurry of runs by the Malakoff Tigers April 22 at home.
Prior to their district contest with Malakoff, Eustace honored seniors Kobe Borchardt, William Clarke, Trevor Baker, Tanner Stahl and Kole Graham.
After a scoreless first inning, the Tigers jumped out to an early lead as they plated two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Eustace responded with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Malakoff lead in half at 2-1.
The Tigers gained some separation with another run in the top of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead into the fourth inning. Malakoff would cross the plate again in the fourth inning to increase their lead to 4-1 over the Bulldogs.
After the Tigers plated a single run in the top of the sixth inning to make it a 5-1 game, the Bulldogs finally found their bats in the bottom half of the inning.
Eustace exploded for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to jump in front of the Tigers 6-5 as suddenly they put Malakoff on the ropes as the Tigers were down to their final three outs trailing by one.
That lead wouldn’t last long as the Bulldogs failed to close out the Tigers as Malakoff found a way to scratch out five runs in the top of the seventh inning as Eustace fell 10-6 on Senior night.
The Bulldogs were led by Borchardt and Carson Kelly who added two hits apiece for Eustace Monday night.
The Bulldogs end the year at 2-14-1 overall with an 0-6 district record to wrap up the 2019 season.
