KERENS–The first rendition of Kerens’ Trinity River Relays in about a decade was swept by the Malakoff boys and girls March 25, outpacing host Kerens, as well as Blooming Grove.
Malakoff’s varsity boys totaled 276 points, outdistancing Blooming Grove (113) and Kerens (105). The Malakoff varsity girls won first place with 282 team points, followed by Kerens with 139 and Blooming Grove with 48.
Individually for the Malakoff boys, Marcus Hornbuckle won the 400-meter dash, Gus Kilman prevailed in the 800-meter run, Trent Stockman took the 110 and 300-meter hurdles, Nathan Jones won the long jump, shot put and high jump, Haydin Thomas won the triple jump and Connor Kale won the pole vault.
For the Malakoff girls, Mia Jackson won the 100-meter dash, Rayona Runnels took first for the 200-meter dash, the long jump and the triple jump, Denver Starkes was first in the 800-meter run, Alexia Roman won the 1600-meter run, Raegan Smith won the 300-meter hurdles, Dazmyne Dowell won the shot put and Katelyn McCoy won the pole vault.
Malakoff boys’ relay teams also won the 4x200-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay, while the girls’ relay team swept the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400-meter relays.
Kerens boys results included first-place finishes from Jarod Brackens in the 100-meter dash and Tyler Carter in the 200-meter dash. The Kerens boys’ relay team also took the 4x100-meters.
Kerens girls’ first-place results include Reece Wright in the 100-meter hurdles and Alexius McAdams in the high jump.
