Brandon Nations, Tigers shut out Lions at home
BLOOMING GROVE–The Malakoff Tigers picked up a big shutout district win over the Blooming Grove Lions April 16 on the road.
The two teams remained scoreless through the first two innings before Malakoff plated their first run in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Malakoff starting pitcher Brandon Nations continued to hold the Lions off the scoreboard as he pitched another scoreless frame in the bottom of the third inning.
The Tigers responded by scoring three runs in the top of the fourth inning as Malakoff increased their lead to 4-0 after four innings.
Nations pitched another two scoreless innings as the Tigers drove in one more run in the top of the seventh to set up Nations the opportunity to finish what he started. Nations shut down the Lions in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Tigers took home a 5-0 shutout victory.
The Tigers racked up five runs on 10 hits with no errors while the Lions were shut down by Nations, who went seven innings, surrendering just three hits while striking out six.
Nathan Jones and Erik Waldo each added two hits in the contest against Blooming Grove. Jones added an RBI, along with Nations and Cully McCoy who knocked in a run apiece in the win against the Lions.
The Tigers sit at 17-8 overall during the season with a 7-1 district record. Malakoff hits the diamond again April 23 as they take on the Mildred Eagles at home with first pitch at 7 p.m.
