KERENS–March 8 ended the week-long trial of defendant Charlie Bell. In June 2017, Bell committed robbery against a young man on his first day of employment at Dollar General in Kerens when he attempted to disguise himself in a women’s dress and scarf.
On the day of the robbery, Kerens officers investigated and worked jointly with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Corsicana Police Department and Navarro County Sheriff’s Department. Bell was caught within 12 hours of the committing the crime. Bells criminal record spans over 30 years, and he was deemed guilty by a jury of his peers.
The citizens of Navarro County who sat on the jury, sentenced Bell to 35 years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
