On Saturday evening, April 4, 2020, Maxie McNew, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 10, 1937 in Arp to Charles Edgar McNew, Sr. and Jakie McMillian.
He married Betty Haney July 3, 1957 and they raised two children together. He was in the grocery business for many years up until retirement.
His most enjoyable time was spent with his family, especially his granddaughters and recently a great-granddaughter. His favorite pastimes were tending to cattle on his farm and meeting up with his buddies for coffee. He faithfully believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and served as a deacon for many years at the First Baptist Church of Mabank.
Maxie was preceded in death by his parents, son Charles Edgar McNew, III, brother Charles Edgar McNew, Jr., and sisters Aline Kirby, Louise Williams, Flo McDaniel, Reba Melton and Jimmie Woodard.
He is survived by his wife Betty McNew, daughter Cecilia Cosper and husband Larry, granddaughters Kelsi Guccione and husband Trey, Karah Fuhs and husband Matthew, great-granddaughter Adalie Fuhs and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A special thanks to his home health nurse, Michelle, who cared for him the past three years with love and compassion.
Due to the current situation, a small graveside service for family was held April 8, 2020 with Brother Brent Tucker officianting.
