Nov. 8, 2021, our beloved mother and granny, 96, went home to be with the Lord.
Most of her adult life was spent in Dallas. Despite a humble upbringing, she worked her way up and became an executive secretary for General Motors and retired after 20 years. Maxine returned to the Big Rock community and Eustace where she was an active member of First Baptist Church. She loved cooking, quilting, gardening and especially tending to her peach trees.
In 2003, Maxine was ready to slow down and moved to a senior living complex. She took a creative writing course and compiled the story of her life for family members, including how it was to live during the Great Depression.
Maxine was preceded in death by Jake Coker in 1947. Jake was the father of Joe Buck and Allan. Also preceded in death by Donald V. Yarborough and by her parents Charlie Stegall and Julia Martin Stegall, two sisters and six brothers.
She is survived by sons Joe Buck Coker and Allan Wayne Coker, grandchildren Tom Coker, Danna and Jim Sturman, Travis Coker, William Jake Coker, Miles Coker, Bennett Coker, Julia Coker and 13 great grandchildren. She is much beloved.
Private family graveside services and interment will be held at Meredith Campground Cemetery by Carroll Lehr Funeral Home.
