PAYNE SPRINGS–Multiple agencies were alerted to a boat on Cedar Creek Lake taking on water at approximately 8:45 a.m. June 9. The boat had three people on board, one of which was able to stay on the phone with 9-1-1 which allowed for their cell phone location to be provided.
All three passengers had life vests on and encountered strong winds. Gun Barrel City Fire Department and Log Cabin Fire Department launched boats to assist in the rescue.
Tarrant Regional Water District also had a boat in the water and was able to get the passengers on their boat with assistance from Log Cabin Fire Department.
Payne Springs Fire Rescue Chief 1 and other crews went to Esquire Estates road where they were able to use a boat dock to unload the passengers and have them checked out by Emergency Medical Services. All passengers suffered minor injuries and refused transport.
The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Game Wardens were also on location to assist.
Please remember to wear a life vest when you are out on the lake. To date, there have been two deaths on the lake this year.
