Funeral services for Olen Ray “Buck” Odom, 89, of the Whitton Community, Canton, were held Dec. 11, 2021 at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with David Fretwell officiating. Internment followed at Tarver Cemetery in Whitton Community. Buck was born July 4, 1932 in Kemp to parents William Hardy and Jessie Leona (Baker) Odom. He went to be with his Lord Dec.5, 2021, at his home with his family by his side. Buck attended Mabank and Scurry Rosser schools. Buck met Shirley June Whitton and a love story began. They were wed May 26, 1956 in Kaufman. Buck worked for the Texas Department of Transportation for 30 years. Buck also worked in the hayfields every summer with his children and grandchildren as well as repaired lawnmowers in his front yard for many years. He helped his brother Joe with his farm and cows and also took care of his mother-in-law with her garden and cows after her husband passed away. Buck and Shirley lived in Canton for most of their married life. They were members of Whitton Church of Christ for many years and raised their children in the church and the Canton Community. Buck was an outstanding husband father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin and friend to all of those around him. If you needed help, Buck wouldn't hesitate to give you the shirt off his back, lend you an ear to listen to or just drink a cup of coffee with you and visit. Buck’s greatest joy was his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He instilled in all of them a work ethic and a personal relationship with The Lord that they will carry on as a legacy and memories that will last a lifetime. Poppi, as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren called him, was a hard headed, stubborn, determined man that would do everything in his power to show, tell, and give his love to all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Buck was preceded in death by his wife Shirley June (Whitton) Odom, daughter Holly Janice Everitt, granddaughter Arrenva Grace (Rennie) Holloway, unborn great-great-grandson Karsen Lee Chandler, parents, brothers Joe Odom and Robert, sisters Will Lois Pitts and Marie and three infant siblings. He is survived by his wife Anna Odom of Canton, daughter Belinda Odom and spouse Don Bohannon of Canton, son-in-law Ken Everitt of Canton, grandchildren Elezabeth and Michael Pierce of Canton, Bill Holloway of Canton, Joshua and Jessica Holloway of Canton, Brian and Jennifer Everitt of Canton, and Brandi and Douglas Boney of Terrell, great-grandchildren Shannon and Calvin Chandler, Landon Broyles, Cheyenne Mason, Dean Mason, Preston Holloway, Sarabeth Holloway, Kylie Holloway, Robert Pierce, Addilyn Everitt, Ryleigh Everitt and Memphis Everitt, sister Dorothy and Perry Cox of Warsaw, brother Midge and Pansy Odom of Mabank, sisters-in-law Anlene Odom of Mabank, Susie Whitton of Canton, Dorothy Whitton of Canton, brother-in-law Delbert Whitton of Canton as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank Patrick Orzechowski for helping take care of Buck during his illness.
