PAYNE SPRINGS–After the Payne Springs Police Department received numerous complaints about the Countryside Store and gas station selling “vapes” or “E-Cigarettes” to minors and adults under the age of 21, one juvenile as young as 14. The Payne Springs Police Department conducted an investigation.
In a press release, the Payne Springs Police Department stated, “We allowed a juvenile under a control buy to purchase tobacco products resulting in an arrest warrant for Babu Krishna Basnet for the offense of Health and Safety Code 161.082.” Basnet is the owner of the Countryside Store and has posted a $1,000 surety bond.
“We know that underage vaping is on the rise and e-cigarette use is on the rise and is having harmful health impacts on our youngest residents, it is critical that we hold retailers accountable and ensure these products stay out of our children’s hands. We are making merchants aware that the law now prohibits the sale of e-cigarettes to minors and the law will be enforced,” said Payne Springs Police Chief April Meadows.
