Panthers fall to 1-2 in district play

MABANK–The Mabank Panthers suffered their second district loss against the Kilgore Bulldogs Oct. 8.
The Panthers fell dropped game against the Bulldogs after a holding on for a victory the week prior against Palestine, falling 46-26.
The Bulldogs jumped all over the Panther defense in the first quarter as they rattled off 29 points to Mabank’s six.
The Panthers’ defense would hold strong the next two quarters as they held Kilgore to just a field goal in the second and third quarter but managed zero on the offensive side of the ball.
Mabank finally found a spark in the fourth quarter as they exploded for 20 points, unfortunately with the Bulldogs adding another 14 to their total as they closed out the contest, 46-26.
Panthers quarterback Beau Kilgore finished the night 9/15 for 128 yards passing with one touchdown. Kilgore also added 15 yards on six carries and one rushing touchdown.
Caleb Goforth added 12 carries for 84 yards and one touchdown for the Panthers.
Cody Chapman added a 16-yard touchdown reception for Mabank in the loss to Kilgore.
Jaydon Reeder had five catches for 69 yards with Aiden Wilkenson adding 43 yards on three carries for Mabank.
The loss drops the Panthers to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in district play.
Mabank (5-2, 1-2 district) enters their bye week before returning to action on the road Oct. 22 in search of another victory against Chapel Hill (5-2, 1-2 district).
