Mabank wins first game of 2020 over Kemp
KEMP–The Mabank Panthers picked up their first win of the 2020 season over their rival Kemp Yellowjackets on the road Sept. 4.
The Panthers rode a strong first half effort to a 36-6 win at Yellowjacket Stadium.
The Panthers picked up the first points of the night on a short two-yard run to take an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
Mabank added a 15-yard rushing touchdown early in the second quarter to increase their lead over the ’Jackets to 14-0. The Panthers kept their legs churning as they added a long 51-yard touchdown run to make it 21-0 at halftime.
The Panthers made it a 28-0 game early in the third quarter on a long 55-yard run.
Kemp finally got themselves on the board with their first points of the contest on a 10-yard touchdown reception to make it 28-6 after the ’Jackets missed the extra point attempt.
The Panthers added a late 14-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter along with a successful two-point conversion to wrap up their first win of the season.
Mabank added 311 total yards of offense against the Yellowjackets.
The win moves Mabank to 1-1 to begin the season while Kemp drops to 0-2 at the start of 2020.
Mabank hits the field again Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at home against Wills Point. Kemp returns to action Sept. 11 on the road against Scurry-Rosser at 7:30 p.m.
