Payne Springs meets on Sheriffs probe

PAYNE SPRINGS–The City of Payne Springs called an emergency meeting Sept. 14 at 3:45 p.m. Of the two items on the agenda, the council approved a resolution placing Mayor Pro-Tem Andrea Miller on all city financial depository accounts and removed City Secretary Karen Juica. No other information on this issue was disclosed by the council.  
After the emergency meeting, the council adjourned to executive session from 3:52 p.m. to 4:29 p.m. According to the agenda released by the council the executive session was called to discuss the employment, evaluation, duties, discipline or dismissal of the city secretary. 
In addition, the council’s agenda disclosed that in executive session they discussed the need to receive legal advice from the city attorney regarding an apparent  investigation by Henderson County Sheriff’s Department. 
No details were provided on what the Sheriff’s investigation is about. 
Once they adjourned executive session the council reconvened open session and approved the administrative leave of the City Secretary until further notice.
