ATHENS–The Athens Police Department has made an arrest in the shooting death of April Nicole Taylor, 30, who lost her life in November of last year.
In a story that The News ran Nov. 23, it was reported that Athens Police responded to a call in the 1000 block of Third Street in the city at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 18. The call was for an unresponsive female and when officers arrived, they found bystanders performing CPR on the woman, but no one on the scene was able to identify a suspect.
Taylor was transported to UT Health East Texas Hospital in Athens where she died from her injuries. Police now report that 71-year-old Matthew McCuin of Larue has been arrested and charged with the crime. According to the City of Athens Facebook page, APD Detective Wesley Hoover made the arrest. Hoover has been in charge of the case since the crime occurred and Athens Police Chief Buddy Hill is quoted as saying, “This arrest was the result of diligent work by Detective Hoover. He has been investigating this case for nine months and his persistence paid off.”
McCuin remains in Henderson County Jail on $1 million bond.
