Robert Elgin Harlow (AKA) Stretch, 80, passed away in his home in Kemp June 5th 2021 after a brief battle with an aggressive cancer. Robert was born Aug. 23, 1940 in Gallatin County, Ill.
He was a high school graduate that enlisted into the United States Army. He was honorably discharged with the rank of a Sargent. He had a few career choices in life ranging from being a Professional Horse Track Trainer, to selling batt, then eventually working for Walmart. No matter the job’s he took or work he performed, Stretch was adored by everyone.
He lived in Texas for 19 years with his spouse Elizabeth and Elizabeth’s granddaughter Christina. Stretch took over the role of being a father to Christina and did a damn good job. He raised her like his own.
Along with Christina, he also had the father roll to four other children, that were adults but he still had a lot to teach every one of us.
Stretch is survived by his sister Gertrude Little and Marrion Bustt and numerous nieces and nephews.
Stretch will be so very missed by everyone who had the chance to meet him.
There will be no service at this time per Robert’s request but we intend to reach out to our friends, family and neighbors on a later date for a gathering and memorial get-together to celebrate Roberts’s life.
