Previously served as Mabank Junior High associate principal
KERENS–Monday, June 22, Kerens ISD’s school board hired Dr. Cindy Satterwhite to take over as principal of the district’s elementary school, replacing Shana Owen, who became director of special programs for Corsicana ISD.
Satterwhite’s education experience includes an eight-year stint as a Mabank High School teacher, five years as curriculum director of Moody ISD, three years as associate principal of Mabank Southside Elementary and another year as Mabank Junior High associate principal.
Satterwhite said fellow Mabank teachers had spoken fondly of Kerens, and that she liked being back at a rural school, working with elementary-aged students. “That’s what I’m most excited about, is to dive in and roll up my sleeves and work with the staff here and move forward,” she added.
In other Kerens ISD board action, trustees:
•Adopted the district’s 2020-21 budget, featuring more than $9 million in spending, which is about $156,000 below projected revenues.
•Heard a construction report on new canopies between the secondary and elementary schools, erecting wrought-iron fencing and a gate, a new concrete drive at the existing gym, air conditioning installation and a new storm sewer inlet by the previous high school.
•Voted to pay bills of more than $100,000 for asbestos abatement at the former middle and high school buildings.
