Severe thunderstorms produce rotation, damaging winds

CEDAR CREEK LAKE–Tornado sirens sounded in Gun Barrel City around 4 p.m. Saturday evening as shoppers took cover at area businesses. Rotation in the clouds caused alarm but no official reports from the National Weather Service have confirmed any tornadoes on the ground.
Kaufman County Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Howie reported two destroyed mobile homes in the county, along with four reporting major damage and several reporting minor damage due to what the National Weather Service has called “Severe thunderstorm winds.”
Area fire departments, and road and bridge crews were out clearing downed trees, blocking several roads. Neighbors got out and helped their neighbors clear branches and trees. At least one homeowner reported major roof damage to The Monitor as a result of winds.
Trinity Valley Electric Co-op had over 1,300 area homes out of power. All had been restored by press time.
