After a short illness Steve was called home Sept. 8, 2019 at UT Health East Texas hospital in Quitman. He was born March 21, 1928 to Esther and Stephen Herrick in Shelton, Conn. Steve moved to Texas to work for LTV in 1947.
A young man of 19 alone in a new city across country from his family back in Shelton, he met the love of his life, Barbara, and they married in 1951. She had two young sons, James and Joe, that he loved and raised as his own. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity for 58 years and retired from LTV after 45 years.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years Barbara, mother and father Esther and Stephen Herrick, sisters Dorothy Dalton, Annamae Dorduk and Jean Condon.
He is survived by sons James Knight and wife Gloria, Joe Knight and wife Louise, brother Ron Herrick and wife Mary, sisters Linda Kruk and husband Ed and Joyce Noel and husband Dick, four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews in Connecticut.
A memorial service will be held at Payne Springs United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019 In lieu of flowers please make donations to Payne Springs United Methodist Church, 9667 TX-198, Mabank, TX 75156 or charity of your choice.
