EUSTACE–The Eustace Lady Bulldogs picked up a win in their non-district contest over the Kerens Lady Bobcats Dec. 7 at home. The Lady Bulldogs used a strong first half performance as they topped the Lady Bobcats 33-22. Emma Bell got the scoring started for Eustace with a three-pointer to give the Lady Bulldogs an early 3-0 lead. With a couple of layups, one courtesy of Tiani Hall, Kerens took a 4-3 lead in the first quarter. An offensive rebound from Avery Reeve sparked a 10-2 run from the Lady Bulldogs as they led 13-6 heading into the second quarter. Reeve added two early free throws in the second quarter to increase the lead for Eustace to 17-8. Eustace junior Emma Fisher added a layup off a defensive steal as the Lady Bulldogs’ defense held strong, allowing just two points from Kerens. Eustace entered halftime leading Kerens 23-8. Kerens had a strong showing in the third quarter as they began their comeback. After an early Eustace offensive rebound from Fisher, Kerens’ Tiara Bailey hit a free throw and a layup as the Lady Bobcats outpaced the Lady Bulldogs 9-3 in the third quarter to trim the deficit to nine points as they trailed 26-17 entering the fourth quarter. Hall hit an early three-point shot for the Lady Bobcats to make it a 26-20 game. Eustace would allow only two more points in the final seven minutes of play as they sealed a 33-22 victory over Kerens. The Lady Bobcats were led by Bailey as she tallied 11 points in the loss. Leah Greene added six points while Hall had five points for Kerens. The Lady Bulldogs were led on offense by Reeve, who finished with eight points in the win. Emma Reynolds had seven points, Lyra Landrum added six points and Bell had five points against the Lady Bobcats. The loss drops Kerens to 1-8 overall on the season as Eustace moves back to .500 at 5-5 overall.
