GROESBECK–The Malakoff Tigers, in record-setting fashion, dominated the Maypearl Panthers on their way to the Bi-district title Nov. 13 at Groesbeck Stadium.
The 83-7 victory over the Panthers was the second-most points the Tigers have scored in a game, behind only an 84-0 victory over the Kemp Yellowjackets in 2019. The 83 points were the most in a playoff game for Malakoff, passing their previous record of 63 points over the Pottsboro Cardinals in the 2018 playoffs.
The win sets up a rematch with the Cardinals in the Area round of the playoffs at Texas A&M Commerce Memorial Stadium Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
Duce Hart was dominant for the Tigers with four touchdowns in the win over the Panthers Friday night. The Tigers were able to bring in their backups for the second half as they led the Panthers 55-7.
The backups accounted for two of the late touchdowns for the Tigers, along with touchdowns from Takeenan Langley, who had two rushing touchdowns, along with two touchdown receptions by Jaylon Hart.
The Tigers’ defense also kicked in on the scoreboard as Karter Fuller returned an interception for six points against the Panthers.
The No. 4-ranked Tigers will take on the No. 5-ranked Cardinals in a rematch of last year’s Regional playoff. The Cardinals upset the Tigers 38-31, ending the Tigers’ playoff run. Malakoff sits at 8-2 overall with Pottsboro at 9-2 overall.
