State runner-up Malakoff ranks No. 2 entering 2019 season

The Tigers eventually fell to the Grandview Zebras, who managed to beat the Tigers twice during their run to their first State title. The two teams will battle on the gridiron during the regular season as their first rematch is set for Week 4 on Sept. 20.

Notes on the upcoming 2019 season for the Tigers: After a run all the way to the State title game, Malakoff could be poised for a repeat if they can replace some key losses on the offensive line. There’s a bevy of skill talent returning with QB Peace (2300 yards, 30 TDs passing, 668 yards, 8 TDs rushing) leading the way. There’s depth at RB with Rose (1,408 yards, 18 TDs rushing), while Carr returns after battling injuries a year ago. Talented newcomers Hart and Davis will add depth to the RB corps. Garrett (895 yards, 11 TDs receiving) is “the best competitor we’ve ever had,” according to Driskell. Seven starters return on defense, led by LB Rush (129 tackles).
