Tigers maul Bulldogs in district opener

EUSTACE–The Malakoff Tigers made quite the impression in their first district game of the 2021 season with a big shutout win over the Eustace Bulldogs on the road Oct. 8.
The Tigers had a strong showing in all four quarter Friday night as they pounced all over the Bulldogs in a 62-0 rout.
The Bulldogs began the game with a strong drive against the Tigers as they neared the red zone before an errant pass was intercepted by Malakoff defensive back Karter Fuller to give the Tigers possession on their own eight-yard line.
The Tigers capped off their drive with a 60-yard touchdown pass to Austin Massingill to give Malakoff a 7-0 lead.
The Tigers added another touchdown on a 13-yard run by Corey Phillips to increase Malakoff’s lead to 14-0.
Just 52 seconds later, DK Rose intercepted a Eustace pass and ran it back 29 yards for the score to make it 21-0 entering the second quarter.
An impressive 47-yard run from Duce Hart set the Tigers up inside the Bulldogs’ 20-yard line in the final minutes of the first half.
Hart finished off the drive with a two-yard touchdown run to give Malakoff a 28-0 lead at halftime.
Hart kept up his impressive performance with two more touchdown runs in the third quarter as the Tigers entered the final 12 minutes with a commanding 42-0 lead.
Malakoff quarterback Kannon Poteete delivered a 13-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to make it 49-0.
A 14-yard touchdown run from Weston Cartlidge increased the Tigers’ lead to 56-0 before Poteete capped the night off with second touchdown with 47 seconds remaining as the Tigers shutout the Bulldogs, 62-0.
The loss drops the Bulldogs to 4-2 overall and 0-1 to begin district play. The Tigers move to 3-3 on the season and 1-0 to begin district.
Eustace (4-2, 0-1 district) heads out on the road to face Groesbeck (5-1, 1-0 district) while Malakoff (3-3, 1-0 district) will take on Teague (2-4, 1-0 district) on the road as well Oct. 15.
