Tigers remain undefeated in district play

EUSTACE–The Malakoff Tigers picked up their fourth straight victory to begin district play over the Eustace Bulldogs Jan. 11 on the road.
The Tigers brought their offense to the Bulldogs Tuesday night as they defeated Eustace, 66-46.
The two teams sat tied early on, 8-8, before a three-pointer from Malakoff Tiger Ryder Rogers put them back in front, 13-8, after a 5-0 run.
Eustace made a late run after a successful and-1 from Mark Patek and a layup by Travis Munden, but the Tigers held a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
A Hunter Chapman three-pointer increased the lead to 18-13 for the Tigers early in the second quarter. A 12-4 run from the Tigers was bookended by a three-pointer from Judson Driskell as Malakoff led Eustace 27-17.
The run was broken up by a three-pointer from Munden.
Austin Massingill hit a three-pointer for Malakoff to end the second quarter as the Tigers held a 34-24 lead at halftime.
Massingill hit another three-point shot alongside a layup from Quintin Fulton to increase Malakoff’s lead to 42-24 at the beginning of the third quarter as the Tigers opened an 8-0 run over Eustace.
The Bulldogs managed just 12 points in the third quarter as the Tigers entered the fourth quarter with a 53-36 lead.
The Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 13-10 in the final eight minutes of play to secure the district win.
The Bulldogs were led by Patek and Munden as they both notched 15 points.
Massingill led the Tigers with 15 points with Fulton adding 13 points for the Tigers in the win.
The loss drops the Bulldogs to 10-15 overall and 2-2 in district play.
The Tigers move up to 4-8 overall and 4-0 in district play.
