Tigers take home four wins at home

Malakoff goes 4-1 at home baseball tournament

MALAKOFF–The Malakoff Tigers varsity baseball squad went 4-1 at their home tournament Feb. 28 through March 2.
The Tigers began their tournament weekend with a game Thursday morning against Garrison.
The Tigers’ offense kicked off their first contest early as they plated five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 5-0 lead.
Garrison responded with two runs in the top of the second inning to cut the lead to 5-2.
Malakoff added a run each in both the fourth and fifth innings to increase their lead to 7-2.
Garrison scratched across two runs in the top of the sixth inning, but the Tigers held on for a 7-4 victory.
Riggin Smith picked up the win for Malakoff, going five innings with three strikeouts against Garrison. Smith added two RBIs in the game from the plate.
Cully McCoy came on in relief and picked up the save for the Tigers, picking up two strikeouts in his one inning of work.
The Tigers then took on the Kerens Bobcats in their first game Friday morning.
The Tigers plated two runs in the first inning and added three more runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead over Kerens.
Malakoff added one more run in the bottom of the third inning to increase their lead to 6-0.
Kerens scratched across two runs in the top of the fourth inning as the Tigers shut the Bobcats down 6-2 in four innings.
Cole Gaddis picked up the win in three innings of work for the Tigers with seven strikeouts.
Darion Peace and Erik Waldo added an RBI apiece for the Tigers against the Bobcats.
Malakoff struggled in their third game of the tournament as they suffered their first loss against the Mabank Panthers.
The Panthers scored two runs in the top of the third and fourth innings as the Tigers were held hitless in their third game, falling 4-0.
The Tigers finished up with two games on Saturday, starting with the Mineola Yellowjackets.
The Tigers came out on fire with five runs in the bottom of the first inning to jump out ahead 5-0.
Mineola scored their first run in the top of the fourth inning before Malakoff answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to increase their lead to 7-1.
Mineola added only one more run as Malakoff picked up the 7-2 victory Saturday morning.
Peace picked up the win for Malakoff on the mound, going four inning innings and striking out six.
McCoy added three RBIs for Malakoff while Nathan Jones drove in two runs in the victory.
Malakoff finished tournament play Saturday afternoon with a big win over Garrison.
The Tigers plated a run in the bottom of the first inning, followed by seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 8-0 lead.
Garrison trimmed the lead to 8-5 with five runs in the top of the third inning.
Malakoff responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take an 11-5 lead.
Garrison added two late runs, but Malakoff picked up the 11-7 win in 3.5 innings.
Peace picked up three hits with Gaddis driving in six runs for the Tigers over Garrison.
McCoy and Waldo added two hits each and Jones drove in two runs for Malakoff.
After a 4-1 weekend, the Tigers moved their record to 5-4 on the season.
The Tigers head out for more tournament play as they take part in the Blanco tournament March 7 through March 9.
