Tigers tame Panthers, advance to Area round

HEWITT–The Malakoff Tigers blanked the Maypearl Panthers in their opening playoff game to win the Bi-district title Nov. 12 at Hewitt Panther Stadium.
The Tigers exploded for 31 points in the second quarter and 14 more in the third quarter on their way to a 59-0 shutout over the Panthers.
The Tigers opened the game with a 27-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead halfway through the first quarter.
Malakoff began the second quarter with a field goal to increase their lead to 10-0.
The Tigers added a 51-yard rushing touchdown shortly after to make it a 17-0 game.
The Malakoff offense added back-to-back rushing touchdowns to take a demanding 31-0 lead over the Panthers.
The Tigers’ defense then got in on the fun as they intercepted a pass for a pick-six to make it 38-0 in favor of the Tigers heading into halftime.
The Tigers added three more touchdowns in the final 24 minutes of regulation as they rolled over the Panthers to advance to the Area round of the UIL 3A State playoffs.
Quarterback Judson Driskell went 16/25 for 235 passing yards and one touchdown pass.
Duce Hart led the way offensively with 14 carries for 180 yards and three rushing touchdowns.
Damien Jackson had four carries for 50 yards and one rushing touchdown in the win over Maypearl.
The Tigers finished with 563 total yards of offense in their Bi-district victory over the Panthers.
Malakoff (8-3) moves on to face the Pottsboro Cardinals (6-4) in the Area round of postseason play at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 18 at Sulphur Spring Prim Stadium.
