New location in Gun Barrel City
CEDAR CREEK LAKE– Since 2006, Tip Top Auto Repair has been a top choice for Cedar Creek Lake area residents. The family owned business has thrived on straight forward honesty and a commitment to making the best repair using the best parts. With 48 years of experience and 31 certifications under his belt, Mike Huskisson has a wide and varied background of automotive knowledge.
“I worked at all four dealerships. I started out at Chevy and once I reached master status then I went to Ford, then I moved to Chrysler, then I went to an import dealership for about five years. I was doing it in order to open my own shop. I wanted to know what was involved and how to work on the different vehicles,” Huskisson explained.
Mike opened his first shop in Garland, then moved to the lake area at the urging of his son. It took two years to get the now permanent location built after renting the location in Payne Springs, but they have really made it special. “I’ve been in a lot of auto repair facilities, and they are all auto repair facilities. When I did this, I told Cassandra (his wife) this is me, this is what I am and I want people to see what I’m into.” Mike pointed out his collections of M&M’s merchandise, bowling paraphernalia and key chains. The unique interior of Tip Top Auto is clean, neat and colorful. Bob, the resident frog even welcomes guests at the front counter. Huskisson told the story of how his catchy business name came about. “It actually came from Oklahoma. In Tipton, Oklahoma when you come into town the sign reads ‘Tipton, a tip top town.’ When I saw that I said, ‘You know that would be an epic name for an auto repair facility.’ So that’s where I adopted Tip Top Auto Repair.”
Since opening at their new location behind O’Reilly Auto Parts, they have revamped their entire operation. “We now offer a three-year 36,000 mile nationwide warranty, our prices are competitive with all nationwide brands and the local auto repairs and within the next month we will begin offering financing through Synchrony Bank,” Huskisson stated.
When asked what set his business apart from other similar businesses in the area, Mike responded immediately, “Straight forward honesty. That really is what makes us stand apart. I stand behind what I do and if something’s wrong, bring it back and I’ll fix it. Whether it’s a defective part, I’ll put a new one on, or if it’s something that I missed, I’ll fix it.” They are also one of the only shops in the area that offer a three years 36,000-mile nationwide warranty in the lake area.
Tip Top Auto Repair services all makes and models, though Mike confesses that restorations are his favorite, “I enjoy bringing a car back to life that’s been sitting for years.”
His wife Cassandra says that he is also good at performance upgrades. Their very own Miss Scarlett, a 2012 red Camaro ZL1. shines as one of those performance upgrades. The upgrades include a ported throttle body, 95 lb injectors, larger inter-cooler with twin fans for cooling the super charger, ported intake, upgraded headers from Borland, upgraded pulley system for max torque from Super Charger, and a pro tune from HPP Tuning in Dallas. Mike upgraded her 450 horsepower to a current 709 horsepower and has plans to upgrade her further.
