Tough fourth quarter sinks Lady Panthers

MABANK–The Mabank Lady Panthers dropped their 2020 home opener to the Bullard Lady Panthers Nov. 10.
After a tough fourth quarter where Mabank managed just two points, Bullard went home with a 37-25 victory.
Bullard opened the game on a 9-0 run, leading to a Mabank timeout with 4:21 remaining in the first quarter. Mabank’s first point came courtesy of a three-pointer from Lilliana Forrest.
Mabank continued that run with two free throws to cut the deficit to 9-5. Bullard wrapped up the first quarter with an 11-6 lead over Mabank.
After seven straight points from Bullard in the second quarter, Mabank finally put two points on the board with 36 seconds remaining in the half on a layup from Drew Neighbors. Madison Reneau added a late three-pointer as Mabank trailed 18-11 to Bullard at halftime. 
Back-to-back baskets from Lainey Kirkland cut the deficit to two points early as Mabank trailed 18-16. A layup from Reneau tied the game 20-20, forcing a Bullard timeout with 4:31 remaining in the third quarter. 
Carley Sapp’s three-pointer put Mabank in front for the first time in the game late in the third quarter, 23-20. Bullard finished with five straight points, including an uncontested layup at the buzzer to put Bullard ahead 25-23 entering the fourth quarter.
Sapp managed the only two points for Mabank as Bullard outscored them 12-2 in the fourth quarter.
