CEDAR CREEK LAKE–The lane switch of the State Highway (SH) 334 bridge took place the evening of Jan. 7.
Switching from the older existing bridge to the newly constructed bridge. In a news release, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) stated, “Traffic has been moved to the new travel lane configuration on the new bridges. Work continues on the eastbound roadway elements. Expect lane closures and delays. The project will upgrade the road from two to four lanes and includes the construction of bridges, storm sewers, guardrails, base, pavement surfaces and markings,” the release said.
Now that the old bridge is closed to traffic re-surfacing with asphalt will begin. The roadway leading to the bridges will be concrete on the Gun Barrel City side and asphalt on the Seven Points side according to the contract and what the cities requested.
Work began on SH 334 in March 2019. “The project is widening the roadway from two to four lanes with the construction of two new bridges north of the existing bridges. It also includes resurfacing the travel lanes. The $41.2 million project is expected to be completed in Spring 2021,” TxDOT states.
Please be cautious when turning across lanes of traffic in Seven Points to and from Vernon’s Lakeside and in Gun Barrel City until construction is complete.
