Traffic stop yields marijuana, cash

GUN BARREL CITY–A traffic stop by Gun Barrel City Police resulted in two arrests Jan. 18.
Gun Barrel City Police Officer Kennedy and his K-9 partner Lavi stopped a motor vehicle in the 100 blk of Forest Lane on a traffic violation. Officer Kennedy approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver. While speaking with the driver Officer Kennedy detected a very strong smell of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, and observed a clear plastic baggie sitting in the console of the vehicle that contained a green leafy residue.
Officer Kennedy observed an additional sack that also contained what he believed to be smaller bags of marijuana The driver and passenger were removed from the vehicle and the vehicle was searched for further contraband.
Officers confiscated approximately 12 oz. of what appears to be marijuana in various packages and over $2,500 in cash from the occupants. Both the driver and passenger were arrested and booked into the Gun Barrel City jail on a charge of Possession of Marijuana over 4 ounces but less than 5 lbs., a State Jail Felony.
