MABANK–Tri-County Library’s Director Brandi Marett is retiring July 31 after five years of service. Brandi says she wants to spend more time with her husband, do some shopping and travel. “Having freedom and flexibility is now more important to me,” Brandi said.
“My husband has a pilots license and loves to fly,” Brandi said.
Brandi said she will be traveling to New York City and Europe. She also hopes to take a cruise down the Rhine River. On her bucket list is the Orient Express from Paris to Istanbul and an Amazon rainforest trip.
Brandi said she will remain active in the community. She will fill a vacancy on the library advisory board, volunteer at Friends of the Animals and will offer services as a grant writer.
Brandi has been a librarian for 20 years and says she will miss the patrons most. Brandi has worked hard to make patrons feel comfortable and “at home” at the library.
“Patrons like coming to the library and that is our goal,” Brandi said.
In the past five years, Brandi has added a weekly preschool play group and homeschool co-op. “We want the library to be family and kid friendly,” Brandi said.
“Out of all the jobs I’ve had, this has been, without a doubt, my favorite,” Brandi said. “This is a wonderful community and has been an absolute joy to serve the community in this capacity.”
“This job is so fun. I’ve had 40 kids making rockets for space camp and launching them in the community room, and kids learning about Michael Angelo and  painting under the tables. We had kids learning about the Jackson 5 and splashing paint all over the canvasses in the parking lot. It’s fun!”
The library was taken over by the city a few years back and Brandi says the mayor has always been incredibly supportive of the library and is appreciative of our efforts.
Brandi is an animal lover, and has three cats and a German shepherd.
A going away party for Brandi is set for Monday, Aug. 12 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
