Quarantined, off-campus learners not eligible for extracurricular attendance
TRINIDAD–The Trinidad Trojans high school basketball teams are currently in quarantine after a student-athlete tested positive for COVID-19.
Trinidad ISD was notified of the positive test Dec. 12. According to the school, depending on testing decisions and results, the high school basketball teams will be quarantined through Dec. 17 at a minimum, possibly extending to Dec. 20. Trinidad is scheduled to take on Cross Roads and Eustace at home Monday, Dec. 21 at 12 noon.
“We are extremely disappointed that our athletes are not being able to do what they love and continue the traditions of TISD without interruption,” Trinidad ISD said in a statement on their Facebook page. “However, the world has been disrupted. Safety is our first priority. Stand with us as we do all that we can to create the safest environment possible in this climate.”
The CDC recently updated its stance on quarantine, lowering it from 14 days to 10 days.
The school also reminded students that are in quarantine, absent or doing remote learning are not eligible to attend extracurricular events for the 2020-21 school year. Students will be asked to leave an event if they attempt to enter under such circumstances.
