District certification date changes for boys and girls
AUSTIN–The University Interscholastic League (UIL) released their guidelines and calendar for the 2020-21 girls’ and boys’ basketball seasons.
The only change for the 2020-21 season is the district certification date, which is set for Feb. 9 for girls’ basketball and Feb. 16 for boys’ basketball.
Girls’ practices begin Oct. 21 and scrimmages (two max) will start Oct. 31. Interschool games for girls will begin Nov. 6. Boys’ practices will start Oct. 28 and scrimmages (two max) will begin Nov. 7. Boys’ interschool games will kick off Nov. 13.
For the postseason, 1A takes three qualifiers from each district and 2A through 6A take four qualifiers for playoffs.
Girls’ Bi-district round runs Feb. 11-13, Area round (Feb. 15-16), Quarterfinals (Feb. 18-20), Regional semifinals (Feb. 22-23), Regional Finals will run Feb. 26-27 and the State tournament will be played March 4-6.
The boys’ basketball postseason will begin with Bi-district Feb. 18-20, Area (Feb. 22-23), Quarterfinals (Feb. 25-27), Regional semifinals (March 1-2), Regional Finals (March 4-6) and the boys’ State tournament will run March 11-13.
All teams will only be allowed to play 27 games this season. Scrimmages must take place at one site with no more than four teams. For sites that are used to having multiple groups of four at a scrimmage fest, that is not allowed for the 2020-21 season under UIL guidelines.
Teams may play up to three games during a calendar week. When school is in session, the second and third games must be played outside of the school week.
No tournaments or showcases, including the regional tournament, are allowed during the 2020-21 season.
