AUSTIN–The University Interscholastic League (UIL) announced their changes for the 2020-21 fall sports season July 21.
The acclimatization period for football begins Aug. 3.
The scrimmage portion schedule of the 2020 high school football season has been reduced to just one scrimmage instead of two weeks before the regular season begins. Instead of beginning Aug. 14, scrimmages will now begin Aug. 20-22.
The regular season for football will begin as scheduled Aug. 27-29 for 7th/8th grade through varsity. The regular season will run from Aug. 27 through Nov. 7 with district certification taking place that last day of the regular season.
The postseason will begin with the Bi-district round Nov. 12-14, Area round Nov. 19-21, Regionals run Nov. 26-28, Quarterfinals take place Dec. 3-5 and State Semifinals take place Dec. 10-12.
State championships will run Dec. 16 through Dec. 19. Schools will have 11 weeks to play 10 games.
This schedule applies to 1A-4A schools that have offered strength and conditioning since July 20 and were not shut down through Aug. 3.
Volleyball may begin practices Aug. 3 with scrimmages beginning Aug. 7.
The regular season for volleyball will begin on time with games kicking off Aug. 10. The regular season runs through Oct. 27 ending with district certification.
The postseason begins with the Bi-district round running Oct. 29-31. The Area round runs Nov. 2-3, Quarterfinals will be Nov. 5-7, Regional semifinals Nov. 9-10 and Regional Finals Nov. 12-14.
The State tournament will run Nov. 18-21. This schedule applies to 1A-4A schools that have offered strength and conditioning since July 20 and were not shut down through Aug. 3.
Cross country for 1A-4A schools may start interschool competition Aug. 17. The district certification deadline for schools is Nov. 14.
Regional meets begin Nov. 23 with the State meet taking place Dec. 5.
The deadlines for filing entry forms to appropriate directors are as follows:
District: Five days prior to district meet
Regionals: Immediately following district meet. Please review regional director’s specified deadline.
State: Regional results will be sent to the state office by the regional director. The school does not send an entry form or fees to the UIL office.
Invitational Meets may have no more than eight total schools and only one level of competitors (Var/JV/9th). A school could bring a girls and boys team, but they would need to be the same level.
District Meets may only have one level of competitors participating on-site at a given time.  Example: if varsity boys/girls are running, JV would not be allowed on-site until the varsity athletes have left.
Additional information will be released at a later time concerning Regional and State meets.
For the 2020-21 basketball season, the district certification date is the only date change for the calendar season. District certification for girls’ basketball is Feb. 9 with boys’ basketball set for Feb. 16.
Girls’ practices can start Oct. 21 with boys beginning Oct. 28. Girls’ scrimmages begin Oct. 31 with interschool games beginning Nov. 6. Boys’ basketball scrimmages begin Nov. 7 with interschool game starting Nov. 13.
Postseason dates for both boys’ and girls’ basketball will remain the same. For playoff dates, visit www.uiltexas.org/policy/covid-19/2020-2021-basketball-calendar.
