Annual air show need sponsors, attendees, donations
GUN BARREL CITY–Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation (CCVF) President Lyn Thomas was one of two guest speakers at the Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon and meeting Jan. 10 at Vetoni’s Italian Restaurant in Gun Barrel City.
"Our three fundraisers are the Pilot Party, the air show and the annual golf tournament," Thomas said. "The golf tournament is being moved to Veterans Day Nov. 11 this year."
Donations from their fundraisers go to The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, the Fisher House and Hope for the Warriors.
"We are looking into selling rides on planes and helicopters," Thomas explained. "We need to raise funds to cover performance fees, fuel, smoke, meals and lodging."
Thomas said that CCVF is considering hosting a fishing tournament to help raise much-needed funds.
Hope for the Warriors Regional Manager Mario Alcala explained that his organization helps Texas veterans with a one-time donation for rent and car payments when they are released from military service.
"We are rated in the top three percent of non-profit organizations," Alcala said. "We also provide services for family members, caregivers and can even help with college expenses."
We match veterans with individuals that want to take them on golfing, hunting and fishing trips along with giving out gift cards to help with gas for doctor’s visits.
CCVF was also the January luncheon sponsor. Thunder Over Cedar Creek Lake (air show in July), CCVF’s main fundraiser, is to honor the courageous men and women who have served to protect the American freedoms by providing financial support for the agencies responsible for their care and nurture. CCVF is an all-volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors Vice President Marty Mullins named Keller Williams Cedar Creek Lake Realty as the January 2019 Business of the Month for their continued support of chamber fundraisers and serving on various chamber boards. Accepting the honor were Cedar Creek Lake Realty agents Judy Pierce, B.G. Pierce, Ally Greenville and Angela Garcia.
