KEMP–The Kemp Yellowjackets dropped their district contest at home to the Scurry-Rosser Wildcats Jan. 19.
The Wildcats brought their balanced offense to Kemp Tuesday night as they put up 30 points in each half on their way to a 60-30 victory over the Yellowjackets.
Dustin Tutle hit a three-pointer late in the first quarter to close the gap for Kemp after they fell behind 7-2 to the Wildcats. A late basket tied the game for the ’Jackets late but the Wildcats added a late score to take a 9-7 lead into the second quarter.
After an early layup from Jaden Gonzalez put Kemp within two trailing 11-9, Scurry went on a 7-0 run, forcing a Kemp timeout with 5:40 remaining in the first half as they trailed 18-9.
Gonzalez added a late offensive rebound to give him six points in the first half, but Kemp trailed Scurry 30-11 at halftime as they ended the second quarter on a 12-2 run.
The ’Jackets managed 10 points in the third quarter with layups from Clayton Brown and Tutle, but still trailed 43-21 entering the fourth quarter.
Klay Karl added a free throw with Halen Cromer knocking down two from the line and Gonzalez picking up two more points, but the Wildcats came out victorious over the ’Jackets.
Gonzalez led Kemp with 10 points against Scurry while Tutle and Karl each notched five points in the loss to the Wildcats.
