Wreck outside Mabank claims two lives

KAUFMAN COUNTY–An early afternoon collision Monday north of Mabank on Farm to Market Road 90 took the lives of Everett Rains, 18, and Jeremy Lee Case, 20, both of Mabank.
State Troopers were dispatched to the crash near the intersection of County Road 4007 at approximately 12:50 p.m.
Acccording to a press release obtained from DPS Staff Sergeant Kyle Bradford, the preliminary investigation shows the two young men were in a black Jeep Renegade traveling north on FM 90 when they lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons, entering the southbound lane where they collided with a southbound grey Ford F-150.
Mabank Police and Fire Departments and  Kaufman County Sheriffs Deputies also responded to the scene. Rains and Case were pronounced deceased at the scene by Kaufman County Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Johnny Adams, who ordered autopsies.
The driver of the Ford truck was transported to U.T Health Athens where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released Monday night.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
