KAUFMAN COUNTY–Three inmate workers experienced a medical emergency inside the Kaufman County Law Enforcement Center at 6:23 p.m., Feb. 16. Jail staff immediately responded by administering lifesaving medical measures. Naloxone, a life-saving medication for opiate overdoses, was administered promptly and CPR efforts were initiated.
According to a press release, two inmates were swiftly transported to a local hospital in stable condition, one inmate was transported to a Dallas area hospital in critical condition.
The Texas Rangers were called upon to assist the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Investigators in the investigation. Their involvement underscores the need for a thorough examination of the circumstances of the medical emergencies within the jail premises. Jail policies and procedures will be reviewed during the investigation. The collaboration between jail staff, medical professionals and law enforcement highlights the coordinated efforts aimed at ensuring the well-being of those under confinement.
Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) implemented their policy and procedure and training on the use of intranasal Naloxone to all employees Jan. 1, 2021. “It is the policy of agency to aid any person(s) who may be suffering from an opioid overdose,” stated KCSO.
