Georgia Lee Crews Doughty was one of eight children born to Evalee Pursley and John Henry Crews Nov. 14, 1929 in Rusk, Cherokee County. She passed peacefully from this earth Aug. 26, 2023 with family at her side.
Georgia grew up in the Atoy Community, graduating from Rusk High School in 1946 and relocated to Dallas shortly after.
Georgia and her children moved to Jacksonville in the early 60s where she was employed for many years with Nan Travis Hospital in the dietary department as the assistant to the dietician.
She married Jesse in 1977 and moved to Eddy, relocating to Burleson a few years later, where she worked and retired from nearby Hughley Memorial Hospital. They eventually settled in Mabank, residing there until his passing in 2017, when she moved in with her daughter. She was a Christian and lived a quiet faith.
Georgia was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles or playing card games. You could often hear the sound of dice in a Yahtzee cup echoing from her direction. She loved watching Jeopardy and sewed many quilts in her lifetime, giving most away to family.
Georgia was a die-hard Texas Rangers fan, often remarking that she should be the manager because she could do a better job than whoever was managing at that time. We feel she has finally assumed her management position and is helping them win some crucial games heading into the post season.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jesse Doughty, siblings Lowell Crews, Joe Morris Crews, John Woodrow Crews, Chester Crews and Bernice Gambrell and stepson Richard Doughty.
She is survived by sisters Helen (Jerry) Grimes and Dorothy Tate, children Stephen (Irene) Hall, Lisa (Ivan) Johnson and Laura Hall Wood, bonus children Evelyn Baldridge, Terry Doughty and Steve (Iris) Doughty, grandchildren Kevin (Emily) Hall, Bethany (Jesse) Rudolph and Isaac Johnson, great-grandchildren Georgia and Graham Rudolph, 13 bonus grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives.
Graveside services were held on Aug. 31, 2023 at Tool Cemetery in Tool with David Asbill officiating. Pallbearers were Terry Doughty, Eric Doughty, Stephen Hall, Kevin Hall, Jesse Rudolph, and Jody Cernoch. Honorary Pallbearers were Isaac Johnson, Ivan Johnson, Steve Doughty, Matthew Doughty and Jerry Baldridge Jr.
