Vernon Ray Byers, 85, passed away March 7, 2024, in Kerens. He was born March 16, 1938, in Eustace, to parents James Samuel and Mattie Lee (Henson) Byers.
Vernon married his loving wife, Joyce Jan. 26, 1983, in Corsicana. They spent many years together building a life many would wish for, a home full of love and laughter always made everyone feel welcome.
Vernon was once the owner of the Byers Feed Store in Eustace and also the owner of a fertilizer business from which he eventually retired.
He was a distinguished Army veteran and esteemed rancher, but he was more than just a man of duty and hard work; Vernon was a beacon of light in his community.
Known for his striking blue eyes and captivating storytelling abilities, Vernon never shied away from striking up conversations with anyone who crossed his path. His ability to connect with people on a personal level earned him the reputation of never meeting a stranger.
Vernon had a deep love for his cows and was known by his family to always be bringing them inside the house. The love for his cows was matched only by his affection for his beloved mule, Jenny.
Among his many joys in life, Vernon loved his dog Jack, his loyal canine companion with whom he embarked on countless coon hunting adventures.
Vernon was a presence unto himself. In the gentle embrace of fond memories and shared reminiscences, we honor his life and legacy - a true gentleman whose laughter will forever echo through the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
