Tigers open season with win over West Rusk

The Malakoff Tigers take their season opener over the West Rusk Raiders Aug. 26 at home. The Tigers, behind three touchdowns from Jason Tennyson, were victorious, 28-7 over West Rusk. The win was also the 130th career head coaching win for Malakoff Tigers Athletic Director/Head Coach Jamie Driskell.

RUSK–The Malakoff Tigers began their season with a victory over the West Rusk Raiders on the road Aug. 26.
The Raiders opened the scoring in the first quarter as they held Malakoff off the scoreboard through the first 12 minutes, leading 7-0 heading into the second quarter.
Damien Jackson got the Tigers on the board with a nine-yard touchdown run in the second quarter as the Tigers and Raiders sat tied 7-7 at halftime.
Jason Tennyson added another nine-yard touchdown run for the Tigers in the third quarter to give the Tigers their first lead of the night, 14-7. 
Tennyson added his second touchdown of the night on a two-yard run in the third quarter to increase the Tigers lead to 21-7. 
Tennyson wrapped up the night with a hat trick of scores as he notched a five-yard touchdown run to seal the Tigers’ 28-7 victory over the Raiders.
Tennyson finished the night with 17 carries for 111 yards and three touchdowns. Jackson had 14 carries for 111 yards and one touchdown for the Tigers.
The Tigers start the season 1-0 and have a tough matchup ahead as they host the Grandview Zebras in their home opener Sept. 2 in a rematch of the 2018 UIL 3A State Championship game.
