Governor Greg Abbott signs a disaster declaration during a Dallas City Hall press conference. Counties included in the declaration are Camp, Culberson, Dallas, Duval, Ellis, El Paso, Henderson, Hopkins, Hudspeth, Kaufman, Kerr, Live Oak, Marion, Montague, Navarro, Pecos, Rains, Smith, Tarrant, Upshur, Van Zandt, Webb and Wood.

Tigers open season with win over West Rusk

The Malakoff Tigers take their season opener over the West Rusk Raiders Aug. 26 at home. The Tigers, behind three touchdowns from Jason Tennyson, were victorious, 28-7 over West Rusk. The win was also the 130th career head coaching win for Malakoff Tigers Athletic Director/Head Coach Jamie Driskell.

County lifts burn ban, disaster declaration

HENDERSON COUNTY–Commissioners’ Court of Henderson County approved lifting the drought-related disaster declaration Aug. 23, which the county has been under since late July.
In addition, according to the county’s official Facebook page, County Judge Wade McKinney followed that by directing County Fire Marshal Shane Renberg that McKinney would lift the countywide burn ban that has been in effect since June 21.
