Henderson County bomb threat leads to evacuations

ATHENS–The Henderson County Commissioners’ Court meeting was cut short after a bomb threat forced several evacuations June 7. The threat stopped the meeting during a presentation by UT Health Regional CEO Donald Baker.
“I hate to cut this short but we have a little incident that is taking place,” Henderson County Judge Wade McKinney told those present. “Major, if you would,” McKinney continued, as a Henderson County deputy sheriff said,” We need everyone to leave the building.”

Eustace City Council hears about Child Crimes Task Force

EUSTACE–The Eustace City Council passed a resolution supporting the Henderson County Crimes Against Children Task Force June 2 at their regular meeting.
Playing a significant role in helping gain support for Resolution No. 278.06-2022 were Henderson County District Attorney Jenny Palmer and Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse, who were both on hand Thursday night to discuss what the task force will do for the county and the city.

Eustace holds end of year athletic banquet

EUSTACE–Eustace High School hosted their annual athletic banquet to round out the 2021-22 school year to honor all athletes and coaches on their accomplishments May 24.
Beginning the year with the opening of volleyball season, the Lady Bulldogs had another successful year on the court. The Heart award went to Lyra Landrum. The Defensive MVP went to Bailey Billings with Avery Reeve taking home Offensive MVP. Volleyball MVP went to senior Emma Bell.

Integrity the main concern during election season

MABANK–The Cedar Creek Republican Club heard from Henderson County Elections Administrator Paula Ludtke at their regular meeting May 26 at Vetoni’s Restaurant.
In her 17 years with Henderson County, the last year with the Election Administration, Ludtke has done it all when it comes to election season and was on hand to explain just what she does and how her and her colleagues work hard to maintain fairness and integrity to all ballot boxes for all voters.

Remembering Memorial Day

CEDAR CREEK LAKE–Nancy and Mark Ball have been organizing a Memorial Day Parade and hot dog cookout in their Key Ranch neighborhood of Marimac for the past eight years. I would say it’s a golf cart parade but participants arrive in four-wheelers, side by sides, slingshots, antique cars, motorcycles or “any other modes of transportation you deem fit for the occasion.” Decorated with every form of red, white and blue décor imaginable, whistles, cowbells and other noisemakers are also encouraged.

THREE ARRESTED IN SEVEN POINTS MURDER INVESTIGATION

SEVEN POINTS–In a series of updated press releases by Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse, the sheriff stated that three individuals have been arrested in connection to the ongoing murder investigation in Seven Points. 
The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) received information May 26 in reference to Jimmy Dean Oldfield who had been missing since May 11. HCSO was advised of the location of the missing person’s truck and body. Oldfield was reported missing to HCSO May 15.
