Norman “Earl” Thompson, 70, of Kemp passed away Feb. 29, 2024, at his home. Earl was born Sept. 11, 1953, in Dallas to Elbis Aaron and Zelma Olivia (Cotten) Thompson.  
Norman worked for Certain Teed after high school and then for TxDOT. 
He retired from TxDOT in 2009 but had many jobs on the side. Hauling dirt, building everyone's house, digging tanks, bailing hay, anything that involved dirt work. 
Norman loved life, his family and his friends and many other aunts and uncles that he loved visiting with and telling stories. He loved to play pool in his spare time and was very good at it. He would sit up all night with his aunts on the Thompson side talking.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife Linda Kay Starek Thompson, parents, foster parents Billy and Mildred Reed, brother Ronald Reed, father-in-law Jerry Starek, brother-in-law Jim Leach and “Johnny Thompson,” a very special uncle.
Those left to carry on his memories include children Christy and husband Scott Lamb of Kemp and Tracy and wife Rachel Thompson of Kemp, grandchildren Taylor Waters of Tool, Kelsey and Cody Calvin of Kemp, Robert Thompson of Kemp and Madison Thompson of Kemp, friend Austin Scott of Payne Springs, great-grandchild Kenna Kay Calvin of Kemp, siblings Lorraine Leach of Canton, Joan Jones Weatherly of Fruitville, Edna and husband Ray Duncan of Mabank, Dicky Reed of Kemp, Terry and wife Patty Reed of Kemp, Diane and husband John Bookman of Kemp and Anslee and Landon Scott of Payne Springs, mother-in-law Betty Starek of Kemp, brother and sisters-in-law  Dennis and wife Debbie Starek, Larry and wife Mary Starek, Jamie and wife Lisa Starek and Jerry Starek all of Kemp and one great- grandchild on the way.
