FRISCO–Mabank High School powerlifter Victoria Shepherd took home the bronze medal March 17 after winning third place at the Class 4A, Division 1 state championships at Frisco’s Comerica Center, which featured a total of 177 lifters.
Shepherd competed in the 123-pound weight class, which had 13 lifters. Shepherd tallied a powerlift total of 800 pounds. That breaks down to a 300-pound squat, a 185-pound bench press and a 315-pound dead lift.
According to Mabank High School’s Facebook page, Shepherd was awarded a scholarship from the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association, the competition sponsor.
Shepherd’s teammate, Callie Riley, also took part in the state championships, competing in the 132-pound weight class. Riley had a 305-pound squat before bowing out of the competition.
Athens High School also had a powerlifter place at the Class 4A, Division 1 state championships. Anna Kidd competed in the 220-pound weight class and totaled 880 pounds. That featured a 400-pound squat, a 175-pound bench press and a 305-pound dead lift. Kidd’s total was good enough for ninth in the state.
