KAUFMAN COUNTY—During the March 19 session of commissioners court an action was approved for the first Homestead Day to be held Saturday, April 20 at the Kaufman County Poor Farm.
Homestead Day is an opportunity to gather together and teach the public about anything that has to do with homesteading, farming, and gardening. Representatives told commissioners that there seems to be a learning gap between generations who have the knowledge and those that want to learn and hope this is a way to bridge the gap of knowledge. The day will be filled with different learning opportunities and programs associated with homesteading. This event will also have learning opportunities from the Kaufman County Masters Gardener’s and the Historical Commission.
Kaufman County Sheriff Bryan Beavers brought before the commissioners an agreement with Kustom Signals for the Sheriff’s Office body and in-car camera systems. Beavers told commissioners that this would be phased in and the department also has a grant. The court approved the action unanimously.
In other business, the court:
• Accepted the treasurer’s monthly report for February 2024.
• Approved an interlocal agreement with Hunt County to purchase material, equipment, and miscellaneous supplies.
• Approved a Book Preservation Contract to Kofile for county clerk utilizing TXMAS contract number TXMAS-23-92001.
• Approved Open Infra installation of fiber optic lines on Curtis Lane, Robin Lane, and County Roads 283, 284, and 285 in Precinct 1.
• Approved dissolving the easements that were located in the dissolved Bois D’ Arc Island Levee Improvement District No. 4 and Levee Improvement District No. 4.
