Capital murder suspect requests change of venue

KAUFMAN COUNTY–A Kaufman County man accused of capital murder requested his trial be held outside of Kaufman County.
Trevor McEuen, 32, is seeking a fair trial for the 2023 murder of his 35-year-old neighbor Aaron Martinez.
McEuen was due in court of the first day of his capital murder trial on May 5 at the Kaufman County Justice Center. Instead, McEuen did not show and cut off his court-ordered ankle monitor and led local and state authorities on a month-long manhunt.
McEuen was eventually discovered under his grandmother’s house in Grand Saline on June 2. McEuen’s trial has been rescheduled for Aug. 4.
His Defense Attorney, Abigail Spain, has filed a motion for a change of venue, stating that there has been too much coverage of the story for McEuen to receive a fair trial in Kaufman County.
The judge in the case has agreed to consider the motion but is not expected to make a decision until after jury selection begins for the trial.
