Members of The First Methodist Church of Mabank gather around Mayor Randy Teague (seated, right) and Deputy Mayor Pro-tem Tyson Adams as Teague signs the 28th Annual Lord’s Acre Harvest Proclamation, making Oct. 14 Lord’s Acre Harvest Festival Day in Mabank.

MABANK–Mabank City Council approved the same tax rate as last year $0.425444 per $100 of taxable valuation. Mayor Teague told the group the tax rate has been the same for many years.
Mabank Housing Authority Director Chrissy Adams presented the annual report to the council. Adams said that over the past year, the front section which comprises 16 units has new roofs.  In the back section, which has 30 one-bedroom apartments, sewer lines have been replaced due to having been collapsed. They have also been re-habbing six units after move-outs, which leaves approximately 10 units that have not been redone.
Adams advised that the wait list is closed now since she is moving in people who have been on the list since 2021. Fair market rates that go into effect Oct. 1 are $739 for a one-bedroom, $863 for a two-bedroom and $1,090 for a 3-bedroom. The back section, section 8 housing which is reserved for elderly or disabled, will rent for $811.
The Mabank Housing Authority Annual meeting is set for the end of October, Adams said, which will include a one-year and five-year plan for capital funds that are issued by HUD. She estimated that they will receive $32,000 which will be used to complete needed improvements to the property.
Adams requested to retain Candice Chappell and Leah Munden as Commissioners of the Housing Authority. She also requested Kelly Blaylock replace Fred Carter who is stepping down. Those appointments were approved by the council.
The city also announced that a Stage 2 Water Restriction would be initiated, further restricting water use within city limits and and outside to customers serviced by Mabank Water Department. Stage 2 limits landscape watering once a week except in certain circumstances. For clarification, visit the city’s website or Facebook.
