Henderson County Commissioners' Court adopted an April 21 proclamation marking the 190th anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto, occurring on the same date as the 1836 skirmish near present-day Houston which forced the surrender of the Mexican Army during the war for Texas independence and led to the formation of the Republic of Texas, which Dec. 29, 1845, became the 28th state of the Union under President James K. Polk. Included in the proclamation process are Precinct 4 Commissioner Mark Richardson (from left), Precinct 3 Commissioner Chuck McHam, Bill Sekel of the Sons of the American Revolution's Athens chapter, County Judge Wade McKinney, Precinct 1 Commissioner Wendy Spivey and Precinct 2 Commissioner Scott Tuley.
